When we were young, warm tea drinks were offered since it was not encouraged for children to drink cold water at the time because of the presence of malaria in the neighborhood.  As a result, this tea gained a lot of popularity in the neighborhood. They would ask for Hpa Kha Hpalap, which means "give me bitter tea". It used to be a little stronger and more bitter. When there is no sugar or honey, Kha implies bitter.

The Hpa Kha tea available on our platform is a type of traditional tea made by the Singpho community of Assam. It is a loose leaf tea prepared by the Singpho community of Margherita sub-division of Assam. The literal translation of Hpa Kha is bitter tea. The term Hpa Kha is written in the Roman Script, where Hpa is pronounced as Pha. It has a very unique smokey flavor. In short, it is a smokey bitter tea with sweet aftertaste. It works great for fatigue, hangover and tiredness. This tea is primarily used for personal consumption within the community and long been passed from generation to generation as a therapeutic beverage.
